A lovely day for those who enjoy being at one with nature. Wine tasting optional!

At Rondevlei Nature Reserve you will experience one of the most important Wetlands for birds in South Africa. This reserve is home to 230 species of birds, including the White Pelican, African Spoonbill and the Greater Flamingo.  There are  many small mammals like Caracal, Cape Fox, Mongoose and  Steenbuck .  We can take a boat ride driven by a local ranger out to the Island and see if we can spot the resident family of very shy Hippotpotomi. The visitor Centre gives you an opportunity of getting eye to eye with Snakes and Carp, and you can get close and personal with a Porcupine, a friendly chap he is too, he eats right out of your hand.

After a tranquil walk through the Reserve we will drive to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, the largest Botanical garden in the country and internationally acclaimed as one of the great botanical gardens of the world. It is a show case to the Cape’s Floral Kingdom. This is an excellent spot to enjoy a lovely lunch after which you will be able to spend some quality time strolling around taking in the most spectacular flowers, birds, trees and views.

Cape Splendour is very happy to arrange a very knowledgeable specialist flower guide to take you around Kirstenbosch Gardens, for those more interested in the finer details of plant life. We can also arrange a golf cart driven by a flower specialist which will give you an opportunity of accessing the areas higher up in the gardens and obtaining some specialist knowledge.

If you are keen to taste some of the most famous and historical wines in the world you can be taken to Groot Constantia and if time permits perhaps Buitenverwagting (beyond expectations), or  Klein Constantia not to mention the newer wine farms that have opened up in the Valley.  On the way back to your hotel we will pop in at Rhodes Memorial for a bit of fascinating history and beautiful views.

This Tour is one of Cape Splendour’s  favourite tours, as it really show cases our local Flora and Fauna and gives you the opportunity of tasting some really excellent wines
